Because an adoption requires the creation of a new level in the Table of Contents, it does not exist and must be created.
- Scroll to where the level should be added, right-click the nearest level, and select "Add Above, Add Below, or Add Into".
- Type the desired name of the level, and hit "Enter/Return".
- If a numbering standard exists, name the level according to the publication's numbering standard.
- Unless "CTRL + Shift + V" is used, do not paste text into this field
- Because the named levels become URLs, you may not use any of the following characters, or create any of the following circumstances:
-
- # (hash)
- – (en dash)
- — (em dash)
- _ (underscore)
- | (pipe or vertical bar)
- & (ampersand)
- < (less than)
- > (greater than)
- . (periods) cannot be placed behind words or at the end of the level's name. Periods must only lie BETWEEN characters
- … or any other character which may conflict with a web address
-
- By default, each word in the level is automatically capitalized.
- Levels may be dragged and dropped above, below, or into, any existing level. In this manner, the Table of Contents may be organized.
- Once a NEW LEVEL is added, its name transfers to the content window at the right and becomes a hyperlink. Select the "Edit" button to the right of the newly added hyperlink, which will reveal a web text editor.
- Type in the new text or paste copied text by pressing "CTRL + SHIFT + V" (for Windows), and "⌘ + SHIFT + V" (for Mac). NOTE: To improve the pasting functionality, "Paste as plain text" has been removed as an option. Unless the pasted text was originally copied from the Self-Publishing Software platform, "CTRL + V" imports hidden artifacts that harm the HTML.
- Lists and Hyperlinks must be added or refined using the text editor's buttons.
- Images and Tables must be added using the text editor's buttons, and will not transfer properly if pasted or "dragged and dropped" into the editor.
- To save the newly added content, select "Update" at the base of the content window. Selecting "Cancel" will delete any content changes in process and revert to the most recent update.
IN PROPOSE MODE, a green pencil should appear to the left of the level's newly underlined name. Newly-added content will turn green in one way or another, to signify its addition to the publication.
