Codification
Estimated Timeline: 18-24 months
Our team of experts will organize your legislation into a logical code of ordinances while ensuring it is legally sound.
- Customer sends all current ordinances of a general and permanent nature in Microsoft Word or editable PDF to be cataloged, converted for future publication, and organized by subject matter
- Assigned Code Attorney will review current ordinances against state statutes, and will prepare a legal analysis document pointing out inconsistencies with state statutes, internal inconsistencies, and possibly obsolete provisions. Code Attorney will provide a proposed organization for the new code. Code Attorney will transmit the legal analysis to the customer's attorney
- Within 45 days of receipt of the analysis, customer staff (including your attorney) and Code Attorney will hold conference, during which the customer will provide direction on how to address the issues raised in the analysis
- Code Attorney will indicate changes to the customer's laws using strike-through and underlined language and our editorial staff will edit and proofread the materials to create a draft code (proofs), which will be sent to the customer for review
- Customer reviews the proofs and provides any corrections needed (turnaround time: 45 days)
- Editorial staff will make any corrections and will do a final quality control check; our printshop staff will print and ship the final code for adoption
- Code Attorney will send a draft model adoption ordinance, to adopt the new code by reference. The customer would schedule the adoption of the new code, and upon adoption, send the adoption ordinance to Municode Ordinances Administration so that the new code can be posted online
